I love how a simple rectangle with two slits for armholes magically turns into a beautifully draped, wraparound cardigan! This piece is remarkably easy to knit, but it is dramatic and sophisticated when worn. The fringe adds a dash of flair, and it looks entirely different if you pull it across to button it, or leave it open.
Yarn:
Farmer’s Daughter Version (reddish colored)
2 strands of Foxy Lady (colorway Hill Country)
428 yards / 100 g per skein, 6 (6, 6, 7, 7) skeins
1 strand Mighty Mo (colorway Eagle Eye)
459 yards / 50 g per skein, 3 (3, 3, 4, 4) skeins
Shibui Knits Version (taupe colored)
2 strands Shibui Knits Lunar (color Ivory)
401 yards / 50 g, 4 (4, 5, 6, 7) skeins
1 strand Shibui Knits Twig (color Caffeine)
190 yards / 50 g, 8 (9, 11, 13, 14) skeins
Sizing
Women’s XS-S (M, L, XL, XXL)
Approximate chest measurement: 32-36 (38-42, 44-48, 50-54, 56-60)“
Shown in Size M with approximately +4-9” positive ease with fronts closed. Both models are wearing with 9” positive ease, Andrea is wearing with 4” positive ease.
Finished Measurements
Chest Circumference: 41.5 (49, 57, 65, 68)“ with fronts open
Back Length: 33 (35.5, 37)”
Needles:
US 8 (5 mm) and US 6 (4 mm)
Gauge:
14 sts x 20 rows = 4” in Stockinette Stitch (with yarns held double stranded)
Notes:
Tubular cast on / cast off, and ribbing creates a polished edging. Because you knit it vertically and then it drapes on a diagonal, playing with different colors and textures of yarns will yield strikingly different results. I love mixing yarn bases, and both of these versions experiment with combining different weights and textures of yarns. With two pattern variations at different gauges you can combine an endless variety of yarns!
