weaving with wool felt

Warp: 8/2 cotton
18” on loom / 4 EPI / 72 ends
85” warp

Weft: Wool felt, botanically dyed with weld, indigo, logwood, and cochineal, cut into 1” strips and sewed end to end

Header and footer woven with 8/4 cotton.

One pick of 8/2 cotton and then one pick of wool felt, both shafts 1/3, then the same with shafts 2/4 (tabby weave, with both picks on the same shafts).

Finished:  17” x 18” and 17” x 24” (had enough warp to make the first piece 5” longer, but may want to add 5” to warp next time to achieve two 24” pieces)

Notes: I love the color, but the results are more, I don’t know, “rustic” than I had envisioned, and I’m not sure what I would use these pieces for. I like the loops on the selvedges, but that further limits usefulness. I had initially envisioned wall hangings, but I think these would look odd hanging on a wall, so probably best as table mats/runners.
