Watercoloring with fiber

First hanging:
Warp and weft: 3/2 cotton, hand painted with marigold and Saxon blue

Warp: silk noil, hand painted with marigold and Saxon blue
Weft: 3/2 cotton, hand painted with marigold and Saxon blue

Warps and wefts were mordanted with aluminum triformate, then hand painted with botanical dyes, then wrapped in saran wrap and steamed in a canning pot for 30 minutes

Postscript: The colors did not hold on these pieces - likely because they were naturally dyed and not enough heat was applied (even though I wrapped them and steamed them after application). I shibori dipped the entire pieces in my indigo vat and got exactly what I was hoping for: To me, it looks like dappled sunlight on a pond’s watery surface.
