weaving rainbow tote bags

Woven panels: See details here

Other materials: Wool felt, leather, cotton canvas, leather strips and metal posts for handles

Construction: Sew woven panel to wool felt block, then sew cotton canvas to sides and bottom to create one side piece. Sew leather piece to wool felt block, then sew cotton canvas to sides and bottom to create the second side piece. Sew long sides and bottom of two sides pieces together, then box corners.

Cut two pieces of cotton canvas; sew a pocket onto one piece, then sew long sides and bottom of the two pieces together (leaving a 3” space open at the bottom seam) and box corners.

Sandwich lining over bag, right sides touching (so bag is right side out and lining is around it, wrong side out). Sew together along the top, then pull bag out through hole in lining. Blindstitch hole in lining and turn it inside the bag. Topstitch along top of bag.

Attach leather handles with metal posts (I used two small squares of wool felt under each metal post to create a fabric “washer”).
