Starburst Wool Scarf

DSC01001.jpeg

On a recent trip to London, I discovered Temaricious naturally dyed cotton embroidery thread, in a gorgeous rainbow of colors. I was on a strict yarn diet, but I couldn’t resist bringing four of these little packages home with me, even though I had no project in mind. When I ended up with extra Merchant & Mills wool - soft, lightly ribbed, in a lovely heathered charcoal - I knew it would make a perfect scarf. The embroidery pattern is improvised, stitched with doubled thread. I covered the backside of the embroidery by cutting a second length of wool and stitching the two pieces wrong sides together, so that the edges have an exposed, rustic appearance. It’s the ideal weight - not too bulky around my neck, but just enough to keep me warm, with the touch of color on the ends. A relaxing, mediative project in front of the fire these last couple of nights . . .
