Sewing up loungewear in rib knit

This was my attempt to recreate some of my favorite Mate the Label loungewear, using the gorgeous Isee Fabric Organic 2x1 rib knit.

Tank: Improv pattern in 1 yard of color Camel, fold-over finishing at neckline and armholes, raw edge at hem

Pants: Improv pattern in 2 yards of color Sedona, elastic waist, fold-over hem at cuffs

Top: Classic Long-Sleeve Tee, designed by Andrea Hungerford for By Hand Serial’s Return to Maine Collection, in 2 yards of color Sunbake, raw edge neckline finished with a zigzag stitch, fold-over hem at cuffs and hem

Notes: Sewn with a jersey needle, using a narrow jersey stitch (#16) and a 2” long x 3” wide stitch. This rib fabric is fairly substantial, which helps the pieces hold their shape, but it makes the ribbing at neck and armholes really stiff. After some experimentation, I decided that I preferred leaving the neck and armholes and the hems finished simply by folding over and stitching, or even leaving the edge raw-cut (which you can get away with when using a knit fabric, since it won’t fray or unravel).
