Merchant & Mills Trousers and Camber Top
Pattern: The 101 Trouser by Merchant and Mills
Fabric: Merchant & Mills Dirty Denim (100% linen)
Size: 10 UK
Takeaways: This one took a lot of modifications - I cut it too big, assuming that I’d need a 14 UK (because that’s the size of dress pattern that works best for me). I forgot that I size up in dresses because of my shoulders - no such sizing up was needed here, and I had to disassemble the entire piece and re-cut it. Even then, the crotch on the pants is incredibly low - I have to hike the waistband way up past my natural waist to get a good fit. I checked my cut pieces against the pattern and they’re accurate, so it must just be the cut of the pattern.
Pattern: Camber Top by Merchant & Mills
Fabric: Japanese double cotton (white) from The Cloth House
Size: 14 UK
Mods: I made the sleeves slightly longer and cropped the hem quite a bit, so that the fit was more flattering with the trousers and skirt.
Takeaways: This fabric is beautiful - I wish I’d bought more of it! It’s similar to a double gauze, but not quite . . . just very soft and relaxed. I like the shape and design of this top - I’m a little worried it’s now too short, but since the trousers and skirt are pretty loose-fitting around the hips, I didn’t want a long, loose-fitting top, as well. Hand washing only to make sure it doesn’t shrink (the fabric is so delicate I’m sure I’d hand wash anyway).
