exposing our seams: improv quilting with botanically dyed vintage french linens

Fabrics: Vintage French linen and cotton, botanically dyed, and organic cotton that I dyed with goldenrod

I’m experimenting with showing all of our messy seams and edges; I randomly placed the fabrics overlapping each other on topic of batting. I sewed each in place (very difficult, I need to find a different way to do this!)

I wove the border with a linen/cotton warping thread, and overlapped the fabrics onto the woven border.

I sewed plackets on the top and bottom, ran a dowel through the bottom to give it some weight and make it hang well, and used an eucalyptus branch I sourced on Etsy for the top placket, then hung the branch from two leather loops, also sourced on Etsy.

I love this look: messy and real, with nothing hidden. It’s quilting mimicking life :) I just need to find a more efficient and less frustraint way to sew the pieces to the batting . . .
