bauhaus blanket

Draft: Bauhaus Blanket from Fern School of Textile Craft

Warp/weft: Briggs & Little Heritage 2-ply wool (5 skeins in washed white and 5 skeins in black) and La Mieux Quebecois 2 ply wool (3 skeins in brique)

360 warp ends, threaded douple on a 6-reed

30” wide on reed

Warp: 150”

Draft: Plain weave doubleweave, following the pattern for color choice

Finishing: Hem stitch, cut to 5” fringe, tie in groups of four

Wet finishing: Wash with a small amount of detergent on gentle cycle in front load washer on warm, then tumble dry on medium heat

Finished size: 43” x 76”

Notes: Even with washing and drying, the blanket didn’t felt as much as I had hoped - although using a 6-reed made weaving much easier and less sticky, it spaced the strands too far apart. Next time I would try an 8-reed. Also, next time I would skip hemstitching and just tie the fringe.
