Fall beauty and biking in New England

We started our trip through western Maine, crossing the border at Gorham and wandering through the White Mountains, all the way to Burlington. Along the way, we stopped to ride the St. Johnsbury segment of the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail and admire the reflections in Coffin Pond outside of Littleton, NH.

In Burlington, we enjoyed epic sunsets over Lake Champlain, and a ride on the Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail out of St. Albans. We stopped along our ride to admire - and place out of harm’s way - an innumerable number of fuzzy wuzzies :)

From there, we drove to Stowe and road the Hyde Park segment of the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail, but the crowds were unbearable, so we decamped and headed for Hanover, NH, where I dropped the kayak in for an afternoon on Grafton Pond - beautiful foliage, but shockingly low water, clear evidence of the past summer’s drought.

Pumpkins and farm stands everywhere!

We planned our trip home along the Kancamagus Highway, through New Hampshire’s White Mountains. The crowds were intense, but we missed the worst of it by traveling early in the morning, which gave us unparalleled views of stormy skies and early-morning mist.

We stumbled upon some of the most beautiful color once we returned to Maine, working our way west to east through little towns like Paris and Norway, where there was stupendous sights tucked away in small corners and no crowds.
